We, my wife and our 2 daughters aged 8 and 6, stayed at Mas San Julian for a week in July 2018 (8th-15th). We stayed in the middle apartment of the 5 apartments (Macabeu I think our one is called?). The accommodation was huge for the 4 of us. There is a third bedroom on the top floor which we didn't use. The apartments had everything we needed including a good bbq which we didn't use but another family staying the same week as us used 3 or 4 times. The outside dining area was where we ate all our meals (when we were not having lunch or dinner elsewhere) and is nicely shaded so you can sit out at anytime. The couches inside were used late in the evenings when the kids had gone to bed and it was time for a glass of wine and a book after sunset. The swimming pool is absolutely fantastic. Henri maintained it daily and it was covered at night. The water is crystal clear and there weren't many leaves or insects in the pool for the week we were there. It's definitely the best holiday pool we have had. There are lots of floatation toys there for the kids too.There is a nice playground on the site which our kids used a few times. They really enjoyed the huge indoor play area. They spent a couple of days there with their new friends from the other family, building forts out of large play mats/cushions. The week we were there it was just us and 1 other family. That was fine for us and Henri explained that is usually gets really busy from mid July until the end of August. Henri was extremely helpful and always looking to give advice on things to do. Henri and Rosa were really great hosts all round. We visited the villages of Castlenou and Villefranche de Conflent, both beautiful places. The little yellow train at Villefranche was a great day out, you should only go to Mont Luis as it takes 4 hours just to go that far and back. We also went to the caves there which were impressive and had a good audio visual show for the kids. Pizzeria des Remparts in Villefranche de Conflent is excellent for food. Great pizzas and deserts, much better than what you usually get. The kids loved it, we went twice. Castlenou is very pretty, a short drive away, and has a lovely little market with local produce and kids games. Nearby Mas San Julian there is a little pony trekking place. You can stroll over to it in 10 minutes, it's literally next door. That was great for the girls. The med is easily reachable for a day trip (as are many places in the mountains like Villefranche). Henri is always available to give advice and he knows his stuff! We stayed at a campsite near Collioure the week after and went to the beaches he recommended (Plage Racou and Plage de Bernardi/Paulilles). These are not sandy beaches but are quieter and great for snorkeling. The fish are right up to the shoreline so our 6 year old could just stand in water up to her waist and look at groups of fish and even a starfish on one occasion. Collioure is definitely worth visiting, a real gem, although is gets busy in the high season. I would highly recommend Mas San Julian and hope to return again with extended family to enjoy the time with!Thank you Henri and Rosa!
